Statistics show that in actual practice gearing is around 40% to 70%. The funding structure however will always be tailored to the characteristics of the company and sector. The amount of leverage will be tailored to fit the expected cash inflows and cash outlays incorporated in management´s business plan. The funding structure is thus a `result´ of the business plan and aims to facilitate the envisaged strategy. It is a misconception that the funding structure is the (limiting) determinant for the strategy, it is the other way around.
